As an International Legal Counsel reporting to the Head of Legal, you will support the expansion efforts of the company across the international regions.
dbt Labs is a remote-first company with a globally distributed team. This role is open to individuals based outside of the United States, subject to the dbt Labss internal approval process and ability to employ in jurisdictions outside the United States. dbt Labs currently has operations in the UK, Ireland, Australia and Germany
In this role you can expect to:
Draft, review and negotiate contracts and other legal documents (e.g., SaaS, DPA, NDA, Security Addendum) related to (usually) non-US business, along with overflow from the US, including but not limited to sales, purchase, partnership, license and employment-related agreements.
As the first member of the Legal team outside the US, be responsible supporting the expansion efforts of the company across the international regions.
Be the go-to person in the legal department with respect to international privacy matters and review of DPAs, privacy policies, etc. In particular, GDPR Compliance.
Be responsible for ensuring the business has accurate timely legal advice in compliance with global policies and applicable legislation.
Work closely with internal business partners providing strategic and proactive legal advice on litigation, commercial, and regulatory matters, including but not limited to understanding, interpreting, and applying current law and regulations to the companys current and prospective products and services.
Work closely with Sales, Security, Finance, PeopleOps and other teams across the company to help develop and implement processes and procedures to commensurate with the growing volume and scale of international business.
This position will report to the Head of Legal and interact with other key members of the Legal and leadership teams.

You are a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction and have been working in-house extensively (7+ years) as both a contracts and generalist attorney at a B2B tech company outside of the US before, including working closely as a trusted advisor and business partner to sales and leadership teams. You communicate well with non-lawyers and are used to employees of all levels coming to you for advice.
You communicate expectations well, and coworkers would describe you as someone who is timely, available, and responsive.
You have worked closely with sales team in the past – you have a passion for ensuring the success of the sales organization and profitable achievement of the companys sales goals
Bonus points if youre familiar with Slack, Salesforce, and Notion, and you have an interest in open source software and licensing nuances.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: 155,000 – 195,000 or £130,000 – £165,000
