Responsibilities
• Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating
patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing
advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
• Assess and identify patients’ needs and implement and monitor the
patient’s medical plan and treatment. They will work with a team of
physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various
settings
• Perform systematic patient assessment and collect pertinent data about
the patient’s health or situation.
• Understand and analyze the assessment information and data
• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues
• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned
care
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the medical team
• Record vital signs, recognize and address abnormalities
• Define the care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team, patients,
and families.
• Maintain and update the technical and clinical skills related to nursing
practice
• Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.
• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory exams
• Perform essential life support (BLS
• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment
• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and
reactions
• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor
patients for any reactions
• Provide wound care management
• Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed
• Facilitate the process of safe patient`s admission and discharge.
• Responsible to keep the infant receiving articles like warmer, suction,
oxygen & AMBU bag, ET tubes etc. ready.
• Responsible for receiving the infant from the labor room/ operating room
• Demonstrates complete skill in performing immediate newborn care
procedures like clamping the cord, checking cord pulsation, insertion of
nasogastric / or gastric tube, gastric lavage, aspiration, administration of
Inj. Vitamin K, and check for anal patency
• Responsible for placing the correct Identification Band on the newborn
infants hand and also to take the foot print
• Performs newborn assessment including anthropometric measurements
• Demonstrates adequate knowledge and skill in assessing and caring for
newborn with congenital abnormalities
• Responsible for initial assessment and stabilization of the newborn in the
neonatal intensive care unit, placing the infant on continuous
hemodynamic monitoring, maintaining thermoregulation, performing
capillary glucose monitoring etc.
• Demonstrates deep knowledge in the care of infant under phototherapy
• Assesses and documents vital signs including SpO2, at specified
frequency as per hospital policy 3.13 Performs or assists with feedings
i.e. breast feeding or gavage feeding
• Performs baby bath, cord care and eye care meticulously for the infants
• Performs newborn screening test including audiometry
• Provides for the physical, psychological and social needs of the patient
and families
• Predominant role in preparation, administration and documentation of
medication.
• Demonstrate skill in care of neonates on mechanical ventilator, central
venous and umbilical catheters, and babies receiving exchange blood
transfusion.
• Demonstrate skill in administration of IV fluids, Total Parenteral Nutrition
and blood and blood product transfusion.
• Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, such as
incubators, ventilators, radiant warmers, cardiac monitor, infusion pump,
syringe pump, bilirubin meter and Bili blanket. Ensure that all equipment
are appropriately decontaminated and stored after use.
• Assists for endotracheal intubation, hypothermia induction,
administration of surfactant, insertion of umbilical catheters, and other
invasive procedures and act as a patient advocate as required.
• Assists with transfer of newborn / infant within the health care facilities
and serves as transport nurse for newborn / infant during ambulance
transport
• Provides health education to the infants’ parents about care of infant at
home including breast feeding and immunization
• Competent in neonatal resuscitation and performs when needed
• Responsible for completing all the details on the birth notification form
and labor and delivery register.
• Provides for the physical, psychological and social needs of the patient
and families
• Provides comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative nursing care
to all surgical patients
• Predominant role in preparation, administration and documentation of
medication.
• Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy,
patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic
technique
• Assists with transfer of patients within the health care facilities and
serves as transport nurse for patients during ambulance transport.
• Demonstrates competency in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and
participates as a member of Code Blue hospital wide.
• Maintains and updates all relevant patient documentation / medical
records as per hospital policy and procedure.
• Follows the reporting mechanisms / chain of command in the nursing
services department. All patient care issues shall be correctly and
promptly reported.
• Demonstrates an economical approach to the utilization of equipment’s
and supplies while assisting the head nurse to maintain an appropriate
ward stock.
OSHAD:
• Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and
procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply with
those requirements.
• Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and
instructions, specific responsibilities
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and
assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports.
• Comply with Waste management procedures and policies.
• Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills
and awareness programs.
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Qualifications
• Have an appropriate license to work as a nurse in the relevant regulatory
health authority (DoH, DHA) with all the qualification and experience this
mandates.
• Manage their own professional revalidation
• Have basic life support qualification (within past 24 months)
• Have an active interest in the clinical field in which they are employed
• Be willing to work across departments when necessary
• Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and
written)
DESIRABLE: The post holder should have:
• Evidenced experience/expertise in the clinical field in which they are
employed
• Evidenced ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the HIS platform
for clinical documentation
