Job Purpose
The role of the Safety Specialist is to provide technical expertise and direction to dnata businesses on all matters related to Occupational Health and Safety to reduce risks, execute safe operations and coach on safety performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Plan
– Supports in the development of safety performance objectives and targets
– Develops with businesses safety improvement plans to meet dnata SMS targets
– Leads the business in implementation of Safe Place + Safe Person observation programs
– Plans significant incident investigations in line with dnata investigation procedure to determine root cause and corrective actions
– Designs and prepares specific procedures to support with the implementation of the SMS
– Plans safety campaigns with SMS promotions manager based on safety performance analyses and emerging trends
– Plans and prepares for internal HSSE self-assessments and audits against the dnata SMS and external audits
– Facilitates the development of intervention plans for underperforming businesses to realign with dnata SMS requirements and performance targets
Lead
– Coaches and mentors Safety Advisors (trainee) in their professional and operational development
– Leads project teams in the development of safety related intervention program
Execute
– Liaises with the Safety Manager and Head of Safety on safety performance issues to align with targets
– Facilitates the implementation of dnata safety and standards and monitors the effectiveness within businesses
– Provides technical assistance and leads incident investigations of the circumstances and root causes of incidents
– Acts as an interim Safety Manager during external absences in country
Qualifications & Experience
Experience
– Safety/Ground Safety
– Airport Operations
– 8-10 years of experience in safety including at least 3 years of experience in a leadership role
Qualifications
– Tertiary qualifications in training / safety or related field
– Qualifications from a recognized international institute or association
Knowledge/Skills
– Advanced knowledge with safety related requirements in interpreting OHS regulations, and safety codes
– Advanced investigations skills
– Advanced knowledge of observation programs and behavioural based safety
– Advanced communication skills
– Advanced computer and IT literacy
– Advanced planning and organizing skills
– Advanced data collection and analyses skills
– Advanced presentation and facilitation skills
– Advanced professional writing skills
– Must be physically able to work in conditions relevant to Airport ground, catering and cargo operations
– Must be able to mentor, train & coach Entry level Safety Advisors
– Field and office-based position: approximately 75% field, and 25% office
